The MITK usage scenarios should be more clearly stated in the documentation
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

The page "Using MITK and Applications" tries to give an overview about how to use MITK. I think this can/should be improved.

We should clearly state (by using a diagram) the three main MITK usage layers:

  • MITK as a toolkit (using shared libraries, like VTK, ITK, etc.)
  • MITK as an application framework (extending ExtApp or building your own app and reusing MITK plug-ins)
  • MITK as an end-user application (just using ExtApp, DTIApp, etc.)

We should point to more information for each layer (especially how to set-up an external project using MITK in the described way)

Event Timeline

New remote branch pushed: bug-11114-add-more-detailed-usage-scenario-documentation

I will need a core modification flag, as in my opinion the best place for the usage concept is in the concepts directory located in MITK/Core/Documentation .

Development is ongoing in the above branch.

I'm working on this anyway and will continue Caspar's branch.

I will add a page that shortly describes how to use MITK (roughly one sentence per option) for T13772. This will be the highly abridged non-technical version of the concept documentation on using MITK.

It will point to this bug's document as further reading and the appropriate how tos for those wanting to use MITK in the described ways and not interested in the underlying design concepts.

I'll remove the core-change flag, this ticket seems to be inactive.

Should I rassign this bug Marco or do you still intend to add the information?

This should either be included in the next release or this bug should be closed.
