Use a duplicate of the segmentation image to determine the smoothing criterion. Otherwise, the initial seedpoint can be erased in the smoothing operation.

The first fix allows the region growing segmentation to start in high-intensity regions in the first place. Now, there is a remaining issue with the usability, that is, extreme scrolling is required to generate segmentations to span higher differences of image intensities.

Like mentioned before the smoothing operation causes some problems, since the extreme scrolling can be noticeably reduced without it. Of course, the absence of smoothing leads to worse segmentations with many gaps, so an adaptation of the smoothing algorithm might be required here, which better respects structures with high intensities.
