I had some Vigra compilation issues with GCC 7. They have already been fixed in the latest upstream version, but I couldn't update since our patch is quite large so it didn't apply cleanly. Looking at it I saw some functional changes there. I suggest to contribute this upstream or remove if not necessary anymore. @goetzm @neher @norajitr : could you please comment
