Our version of SOFA is nearly two years old now. Meanwhile SOFA changed a lot and users start to ask for upgrades. We should consider upgrading soon to keep pace with future developments. The LGPL/GPL licensing is much clearer now but there are still a few uncertainties. I hooked into https://github.com/sofa-framework/sofa/pull/139 for that purpose. The idea is to also make a set of SOFA plugins available by default when building SOFA in the superbuild.

The contribution process was improved, too (GitHub workflow). I already forked SOFA and plan to contribute as much as possible instead of patching SOFA. However, I still would like to keep the fork to remove all the GPL parts of SOFA (mainly the GUI applications) for our tarball. I also would like to start distributing the SOFA example scenes. Either by correcting the paths to external resources in them or by providing a magical path resolving class like SOFA has for its own distribution.
