For mitk::DiffusionImage, switching between the channels seems faster, even though the data is copied out for each index from the underlying itk::VectorImage , than stepping through the volumes by ImageNavigator when the data is read in as 3d+t image.

We should take a look at the navigator's performance in comparison to the diffusion image mechanism.
