Description

The registration icons mainly consist of a grid common in all icons, while the actual purpose of the individual views is cramped into a secondary icon in the bottom-left corner of the overall icon. They are hardly distingushable from each other in the usual toolbar icon size prevanlent in the MITK Workbench.

Since the toolbars are separated by categories anyway, the secondary icons mentioned above should be the main icons, while the common grid icon could be removed to reduce visual complexity.

kislinsk moved this task from Backlog to Cycle on the MITK (v2022.10) board.

There is a point that we can optimize the icons, but i would like to discuss how in beforhand.
I don't think that we have to push it for that release.

It's not a change in iconography, just emphasizing the already present primary icons.

Yes, but I think some of the icons on there own (e.g. the = ) make no sense.
And the also have to be recoginzable in a set of view tabs or if people deactivated the captions!

The first generation even were with a big primary icon and then Caro changed it to there current form.

So please let's discuss it. I think there is no need to push it before release. There are other more important open things.

kislinsk edited projects, added MITK; removed MITK (v2022.10).

Hm, I disagree. :-)

Did you try it already? It's quite an UX improvement. The icons themselves are surely debatable with or without grid but nobody said that this is the end of the road.

The difference on most screens is having 7 times the same icon where you have to squnich your eyes to note a difference at all in 6x6 pixels in the corner in the best case (toolbar), resp. 3x3 pixels in the view titles, vs. having 7 distinguishable icons. How can this not be an improvement, even if it were just 7 different letters as long as there is something distinguishable and therefore something that you can associate with a view? :D

Even without the default toolbar categories, these icons are still separated into groups, giving them context. Also, the tooltips of toolbar icons pop up rather quickly in the Workbench in particular when hovering over multiple icons, which will reveal them immediately. Talking of view titles, well, there's the view title for context, all starting with "MatchPoint".

The icons in their current appearance would indeed make sense, if they would be presented in a much bigger size starting from maybe 128x128.
