It doesn't crash with the current master (d523a10a093e9dccc66b2904b76dd6e9a4cea9f1) + your patch on my computer (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Python 2.7.3)
However, the python plugin is not able to "import itk" and therefore doesn't work.
I just tested it with b6576a5dcafc90bf6d181e3f54bf09df02517e02 + patch and it still crashes here. The core dump looks the same.
This bug has a high severity and was not fixed within the 2013-06 release. Setting target milestone to next release.
Could not reproduce this bug on ubuntu 13.04, although some other bugs were found. As soon as these bugs are fixed we will have more test machines running the Python stuff.
