Clarify the versions/editions we publish as installer
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Currently we only generate the MITK Workbench which has a reduced feature set.

We have currently more features under support (e.g. Fitting/Perfusion), but know official releases which renders its applicability and outreach potential close to zero (no one will build our solution, when he can directly download other options).

We should discuss our portfolio/product strategie?
Not sure how we change it, but we definetly should change it.

We want to have:

  • a slick minimum Workbench version
  • a fuller / bigger version. Exact contents and name still need to be compiled (e.g. Perfusion, Fitting, ...)

TO DO:

  • determine what exactly should be included in each version
  • determine names for the versions

(- add introduction pages / texts for each version)

For the bigger MITK Workbench version of the 2023.10 release it is planned to include Pharmacokinetics (Perfusion, PET) and ModelFit.
Specifically, the following plugins will be included:

ModelFit:

  • org.mitk.gui.qt.fit.genericfitting
  • org.mitk.gui.qt.fit.inspector

Perfusion:

  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.mri
  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.concentration.mri
  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.curvedescriptor

This plugins is not included for now, but will be considered as a candidate for future releases (for details see https://phabricator.mitk.org/T30285):

PET:

  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.pet

NOT included will be (@floca as far is I understood these plugins were tailored for specific applications and are not really of interest to the users in general, correct? ):

  • org.mitk.gui.qt.fit.demo
  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.simulation

NOT included will be (@floca as far is I understood these plugins were tailored for specific applications and are not really of interest to the users in general, correct? ):

  • org.mitk.gui.qt.fit.demo
  • org.mitk.gui.qt.pharmacokinetics.simulation

Yes, I think it does not make sense to include those.

I also looked through the plugins and for now I would not add any other plugin to the bigger release.

So now we have to clarify the name for the bigger edition. And if we want to have just one extended edition or if we will in the end have it focused on topics. As we only have currently fitting stuf added.

We should also have a look on eMITK plugins. Maybe not for that release, but for the next.
E.g. would the MRI tools make sense?
SUV would also be a candidate... may RT (but there we have to double check the state...

Name suggestion: MITK Workbench - Science Edition

Some more name ideas:
MITK Workbench Plus
MITK Workbench - Advanced Edition
MITK Workbench - Extended Edition
MITK Deluxe (ok, too far, I'll better stop now...)

MITK Workbench XL
MITK Workbench - extra

I like MITK Workbench - Extended (Version)

Closed, we put everythin in own installer and solve it by configuration:
